Almost a hundred people were waiting Saturday morning, when the benefit Heidi Hardy organized started Saturday morning.

Hardy's two-year-old son, Keldon Gene Hardy, drowned on July tenth. Since then, she's recieved thousands of dollars worth of bills for hospital expenses and funeral costs. She never thought she would get so much help from her community.

"I'm amazed and touched that the community is getting involved because you never really know," Hardy said.

She decided to organize a benefit to help pay for all those bills and give Keldon the headstone he deserves.

"My baby lived for 'four wee widing' as he says and he wouldn't have had it any other way," Hardy said.

The family held the benefit in Deweyville at Texas Hog Wallow Mud Park. Participants paid ten dollars to enter.

Many who came were touched by the Keldon's story.

"I think it really does bring the community together," Heather Knighton said. "It gives us an opportunity to have fun while doing it, but brings us together to realize we can help someone else in their time of grief and be able to support them."

The family has set up an account at Firestone Federal Credit Union for contributions in Keldon's memory.
